The New York Daily News (critic Jack Mathews) chose Happy Feet as best film of 2006. At least the rest of the top 10 isn’t too bad, although I personally (and I’m among the few) hated Pan’s Labyrinth.

Here’s a short film I made a while back. It’s called Chocolate Morphine: An After School Special. I apologize if the subtitles are a bit tough to read at times - it wasn’t put together specifically for web-viewing. Anyway, you can watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCdQHPke9so or below. YouTube description: In this award-winning short, a boy […]
At the end of each year, countless newspapers, magazines, TV shows, web sites and blogs run out of stuff to talk about (like me) and make dumb lists of random stuff. The year’s best books, best movies, best music. And of course, the year’s worst. I’m a list maniac - I love them. Rankings rule […]
I think I’m overdue for another recap of some of the films I’ve seen lately. I won’t bother with the joke ratings, though.
Here goes:
-The Neverending Story II: The Next Chapter. Who doesn’t love the original (and its music)? This follow-up lacks all the magic of its predecessor. Fantasia looks like a cross between a Bob […]
The 1982 Academy Award-nominated British short The Snowman is one of my favorite films, period. It’s beautiful, joyful, sad, and now legendary. I remember seeing it on television when I was younger, and was familiar with the Raymond Briggs book as well. More, including video, after the jump.
As expected, nobody watched NBC’s atrocious The Year Without a Santa Claus. The ratings (households: 4.8/8, #9; adults 18-49: 2.5, #T10) were down 50 percent from its 8 pm lead-in, Deal or No Deal.
Also, I was thinking that maybe The Year Without a Santa Claus was originally a book. I looked into it, and indeed, […]
Today’s special (and yeah, they’re mostly animated) is a wonderful, mostly forgotten Clive A. Smith/Nelvana Studios production from 1977. And again Canadian, although it aired in the US as well. Read all about it after the jump.
I enjoyed the Rankin/Bass stop-motion Christmas special The Year Without a Santa Claus a lot, but last night’s cheezy remake/rape starring John Goodman is one of the worst times I have ever had sitting in front of a television set. It was even worse than National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie’s whatever-the-rest-of-the-title-was from a […]
Okay, there’s nothing rare, odd, unusual or obscure about A Garfield Christmas Special, but it’s one of my favorites and there’s one shot that I absolutely love. I remember hitting the rewind button over and over again to watch this - it just looked so silly. Throughout the program it’s hilarious to see Jon turn […]
Today’s Christmas special is an energy conservation effort by the Canadian government. Les Drew’s 1975 short The Energy Carol is strange but fun. It’s original and well-drawn and funny while it’s purpose is to get Canadians to save on energy consumption.
I’d like to tell you all about Yogi’s First Christmas but I’m stuffed and tired.
It’s almost Christmas, and what does that mean? I will be watching classic Christmas specials. And lots of ‘em. By classic I do not mean Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, Year Without a Santa Claus, Frosty the Snowman, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and The Little Drummer Boy. No, by classic I […]
Another Netflix post.
I’m a big fan of Netflix, but I do have some problems with them. Namely, their practice of throttling. Throttling, as it is called on the web, is in part meant to give low-volume renters priority status for the titles they have at the top of their queues. Which is fair, I think. […]
