These are the films that were released in 2006 that I have seen.
Some notes:
-This is not a list of films that I watched in 2006, but of films released in 2006.
-Army of Shadows was never released in the United States until 2006, and has been included in numerous top 10 lists (including The New York Times). I won’t officially count it as a 2006 film, though.
-49 Up was a British mini-series that aired in the UK in 2005. I saw it early in 2006 (my then-advance review) and it was released to theaters as a feature here later in the year. So I did include that one.
-Films with an asterisk denotes that I saw them in the theater.
-I rarely give films a 5-star rating. Of the 3700+ films I have seen, only about 100 films have been given that ranking. The most recent films to earn this distinction were The Thin Red Line (1998), Being John Malkovich (1999), Mulholland Dr. (2001), Narc (2002) and Lost in Translation (2003). The 4,5 star rating is pretty rare, too.
-I don’t maintain notebooks or Excel spreadsheets of everything I’ve seen. Whenever I see a movie, I give it a rating at MovieMeter the next day or a few days later, and they churn out all this information. You can do something similar at IMDb.
-Wow, 100+ titles as of today and 40 of them seen in theaters. Of course, that doesn’t include any of the older films that I watched in 2006.
